At a few years ago it was a railway line tearing Manhattan: today it is an open sky garden and also an open sky creative rehabilitation. “The High Line” is no longer the place for the trains, the carriages or the tickets. Today it is a public park built on the historic rail line above Manhattan.
From 1930 to 2012 many things have changed an somewhere in the 90 decade, the line was ready to be destroyed. But the chord of voices, as high as the line, joined together in the transformation in one of the most famous gardens of the city. History is all around the building of this space and those who went there can appreciate a beautiful view and a stunning architectonic space.
The bridges between the past and the present were created by landscape designers James Corner Field Operations and architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro. Now, they are again together, planning to extend the park, which will be open by 2014. This suspended garden is based on a minimalistic design, with grass and wood benches.
New York is the city of innovation, development and new ideas. And this High Line Park is one of the reasons why they never sleep: there’s always energy, attitude and desire for the new.
