Archtober (ärk’tōbər) is New York City’s Architecture and Design Month, the fifth annual month-long festival of architecture activities, programs and exhibitions taking place during the month of October.
This is a collaborative grassroots initiative between the city’s leading cultural institutions and professional organizations that raises public awareness of architecture and design in everyday life. Daily tours, lectures, films, and exhibitions will celebrate the lasting civic and international impact of the richness of the city’s built environment. 2013 Presenting Media Sponsors were Dwell and New York Magazine. Pentagram designed Archtober’s branding and visual identity, which includes the guide, website, and Archtober Lounge.Archtober presents special tours, lectures, films and exhibitions that focus on the importance of architecture and design in everyday life. The many participating organizations aim to raise awareness of the important role of design in our city and to build a lasting civic and international recognition of the richness of New York’s built environment.

Every year there’s “Building of the day”. The Archtober “Building of the Day” celebrates contemporary as well as iconic architecture in New York City with daily on-site tours, led by the architect. This year’s “Building of the Day” sites are now available online.
One of Archtober’s distinctive features is the breadth of its collaborating organizations, which range from established institutions like the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, to start-ups like Bring to Light: Nuit Blanche New York and Designers & Books Fair. This diversity captures the unique spirit of New York’s design world. Archtober 2013 featured more than 50 participating organizations.
NYC & Company’s Design Collection group of hotels will serve this year as the official hotels of Archtober. These boutique hotels located around New York City, along with the Official NYC & Company’s Information Centers, will be distributors of the Archtober calendar guide.

Entrance to the Center for Architecture’s Archtober Lounge, South Street Seaport’s Archtober Hall and exhibitions are free and open to the public. Other program and exhibition entrance costs vary.
