More than 100 thought leaders from the world of hospitality design, development, purchasing and architecture will share their perspectives at the Boutique Design New York (BDNY) trade fair and conference, Nov. 13-14, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

World-renowned designer Karim Rashid, whose remake of Temptation Resort & Spa Cancun was featured in Boutique Design’s July/August issue, will kick off the BDNY conference with a keynote presentation on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 10:00 AM. A prolific, multi-disciplined designer with some 3,000 designs in production, Rashid will share his strategies for creating provocative design with a practical foundation.

Following Rashid’s presentation, BDNY 16 executive editor and HMG conference director Mary Scoviak will moderate a discussion with CEOs of leading lifestyle brands on the trends, challenges and “extra skills” that will win commissions in their dynamic segment of the hospitality market. Panelists for “Living the Lifestyle: A View From the C-Suite” include Ingo Schweder, chief executive officer and founder, GOCO Hospitality; Josh Wyatt, president,Equinox Hotels; and others to be announced.

The Opening Keynote at BDNY 2016 is the first of 35+ panel discussions, design-firm Q&As and CEU sessions on the two-day conference agenda. Sessions are grouped into four tracks: Inspiration, Information, Interaction and a new addition for 2016, Intel, which focuses on helping designers improve their business management skills and processes.

Among the Intel sessions for 2016 is “Tru Story,” a panel discussion moderated by Alexandra Jaritz, global head,TRU by Hilton, that will give BDNY 2016 attendees a behind-the-scenes look at the process of crafting a new hotel flag, courtesy of the team that developed the midscale hotel brand targeting youthful, value-minded travelers. Panelists confirmed to date include Tom Horwitz, executive vice president, FRCH Design Worldwide, and Mitch Patel, president & chief executive officer, Vision Hospitality Group, Inc.

“The Next Resort: Beyond Sustainability,” an Intel session presented by NEWH Green Voice, explores design strategies for creating healthier hotel environments for staff and guests alike. Lorraine Francis, regional director of hospitality interiors, Gensler, will moderate; panelists include Paul Scialla, founder, chief executive officer, Delos, and others to be announced.

BDNY 2016signature sessions include the “ISHP/Boutique Design Owners’ Grill” with leading hoteliers and investors; the ticketed “Boutique Design Power Players: Women Leaders in Hospitality Breakfast and Panel Discussion” with forward-thinking female executives; “Up-and-Coming Hoteliers” with visionaries in the lifestyle sector; and “Brand Central” with masterminds behind leading and emerging hotel brands.

The signature “New in New York” session invites attendees to learn the secrets of some of the year’s high-profile hospitality debuts, including The Beekman hotel, opening this month in Lower Manhattan’s historic Temple Court Building. Panelists include Gian Gaglione, associate, Martin Brudnizki Design Studio; Robin Mackay, project manager, Dakota Development; and Alessandro Munge, principal/interior designer, Studio Munge. Boutique Design editor Matthew Hall will moderate.
