“Three days later, I was on a plane to Milan. It was a dream come true”
– Sasha Bikoff
Sasha Bikoff is a New York-based interior designer known for her balanced understanding of design, flawless execution, colorful designs and use of art-historical styles.
Versace is an Italian luxury fashion company – one of the biggest names in the game – and one of the few remaining family-controlled businesses in the industry. It all started with a younh boy designing clothes in Calabria.
At first sight these two have nothing in common but yet, a collaboration came about and Milan’s Salone del Mobile has been delighted with the maximalist paradise they’ve been given.
Versace has used classical, neoclassical and pop-contemporary references since Gianni Versace first founded the brand in the late 1970s. Sasha Bikoff‘s whole aesthestic is build on the 18th-century French Rococo, 1960s Space Age modernism and the postmodernism of the Italian Memphis Group.
With this common ground established, its easier to wrap our minds around the fact that Sasha Bikoff – one of the growing faces in the interior design industry – has taken it a step further and collabed with Versace.
“I’m an overachiever! The collaboration started as just a special collection for Salone and I said I wanted to do it all. I wanted everything to be connected through a similar experience.”
– Sasha Bikoff
At this years’ Salone del Mobile, Versace and Bikoff have fused their styles – and some more reference points – to create an unforgettable installation at the Versace Palazzo in Milan.
Located at Via Gesù 12, The Palazzo is a group of neoclassical buildings first constructed in 1782. Not generally open to the public, there are a limited number of tickets being issued each day, during this week, so that visitors can see Versace x Sasha immersive creation.
A true anthem of color, the installation draws attention to Versace’s latest home line, designed in collaboration with artist Andy Dixon. The collection translates Versace’s aesthetic into a variety of home decor pieces and indicates the exciting growth at Versace Home. After being founded in 1992, Versace Home has evolved during this current year and is creating furniture, textiles, porcelain, wall coverings and more.
And while Bikoff herself did not create the new Versace Home collection of products, her interpretation of design is a sight to see all over. Donatella Versace – in the statement released by Versace – said she saw a parallel between Bikoff’s approach to interior design and her own methodology when it comes to fashion.
And how did this partnership come about? Sasha Bikoff explains it,
“I was just sitting on my couch minding my own business when I got a call from Versace. They said – We want to collaborate with you on a home collection to be featured at Salone del Mobile.”
