You probably don’t know but soon you will be able to embrace a building by the famed japanese architect tadao ando upon the completion of 152 elizabeth street, an ‘ultra-luxury’ condominium in manhattan’s nolita, developed by local firm sumida + khurana.
Tadao Ando, born in 1941 is one of the most renowned contemporary Japanese architects. Characteristics of his work include large expanses of unadorned architectural concrete walls combined with wooden or stone floors and large windows. Active natural elements, like sun, rain, and wind are a distinctive inclusion to his style.
The seven-story structure comprised of ando’s signature concrete contain 32,000 square feet of prime real estate. the design of each unit is approached as a custom residence, each given the utmost attention to detail and craft. the building will exhibit vast surfaces of glass along with galvanized steel, and the largest living green wall ando has completed to date, measuring 55 feet high by 99 feet wide.
The design encompasses four principle elements: light, sound, air, and water to define the internal spaces while allowing the surrounding neighborhood to give context to the building.
