Tommy Hilfiger’s Plaza PenthouseThe sales saga of this 5,600-square-foot duplex apartment located on the 18th and 19th floors of the building began in 2008. At the time Hilfiger was asking $50 million, and the ongoing financial crisis at the time certainly would not have helped matters.

Tommy Hilfiger’s Plaza PenthouseThe duplex was created by combining two separate units Hilfiger and his wife, Dee Ocleppo purchased that same year for $25.5 million, according to the Journal. With no success on the first attemp Hilfiger decided to take it off the market and jazz it up with $20 million in renovations, and in late 2013 the apartment was asking an astronomical $80 million.

Tommy Hilfiger’s Plaza PenthouseIn 2015, it came down to $75 million, and early this year it was down to $69 million, but that didn’t work either. The new broker on the property from Douglas Elliman told WSJ that slow sales may be in large part due to the eclectic tastes of Hilfiger. Some of the design quirks include an Eloise mural created by the illustrator of the book, Hilary Knight, within the dome of the duplex, and an Andy Warhol-created portrait of Elizabeth Taylor.
